It is well known that an attractive smile can bring you a lot of benefits and surveys have proved it also. You are more likely to be accepted for an important job if you have a straight and shiny smile than if you have yellow and untidy teeth. Yellow teeth may also cause your employer to believe that you are an inveterate smoker, becoming another disadvantage in your way to success. This is the reason for the fact that, nowadays, more and more people see cosmetic dentistry as the solution to most of their problems.
From teeth whitening to different types of tooth veneers, the dentist holds the key to your smile. However, although people are aware of the fact that fixing their teeth can help their life, the fear with which people think of a dentist still exists. This is why many doctors have decided to change their clients’ perception of a dental checkup. They have started to offer free consultations, which is quite a good method to attract clients and convince them that going to the dentist isn’t that bad. Dental Day Spas have also started to spread. These Spas offer to patients different fun ways to relax before or even while the dentist takes care of their teeth and are equipped with the latest technologies. One example would be the procedure “zoom whitening” - the fastest type of teeth whitening that exists till now.

I have been a practicing dentist in Midtown Manhattan for over twenty five years. I have noticed that many new patients are over whelmed by their dental problems and don’t know where to start and how they will be able to afford their entire proposed treatment. Plan…
New patients do often new patients present with multiple problems that need addressing and have finances that limit their ability to afford their best treatment plan. Sometimes they have dental insurance which is a help, but only cover $1500/year of the treatments and may only cover 50-80% of the fees for the procedures needed. Patients can be in a real bind; they want to carry out the proposed treatment plan but can’t do it all in one year.
This is a situation where staged treatment planning is helpful. Say for example, that a patient need gum treatments, two root canals, two posts and two crowns. Also, they desire teeth whitening (not covered by dental insurance).and may want some simple bonding to enhance their smile. The problem is their insurance only covers $1500 / year and they can only afford $1500 out of pocket for now.

Bad breath, also known as halitosis. Bad Breath is usually caused by the breakdown of proteins by bacteria somewhere in the mouth. Certain foods, such as garlic and onions, contribute to objectionable breath odor. Bad breath can also be caused by dry mouth (xerostomia), which occurs when the flow of saliva decreases. Saliva is necessary to cleanse the mouth and remove particles that may cause odor. Dry mouth may be caused by various medications, salivary gland problems or continuously breathing through the mouth. In many people, the millions of bacteria that live in the mouth (particularly on the back of the tongue) are the primary causes of bad breath. The mouth’s warm, moist conditions make an ideal environment for these bacteria to grow. Most bad breath is caused by something in the mouth. Particles of food remain in the mouth, collecting bacteria, which can cause bad breath. Canker sores may be related to bad breath, especially if they accompany periodontal disease.
Food that collects between the teeth, on the tongue and around the gums can rot, leaving an unpleasant odor. Poor oral hygiene leads to bad breath because when you leave food particles in your mouth, these pieces of food can rot and start to smell. Tobacco products cause bad breath. Bad breath may be the sign of a medical disorder, such as a local infection in the respiratory tract, chronic sinusitis, postnasal drip, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, gastrointestinal disturbance, liver or kidney ailment. Bad breath is usually caused by the bacteria that live in a person’s mouth. Severe dieting-Dieters may develop unpleasant “fruity” breath from ketoacidosis, the breakdown of chemicals during fasting. Bad breath is also associated with sinus infections because nasal discharge from your sinuses into the back of your throat can cause mouth odor.

Although most people would not consider cavities an issue for children who don’t even have all of their teeth yet, scientists and researchers are now warning of early childhood dental decay is a significant health problem.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the percentage of children between 2 and 5 with dental cavities has increased from 24 percent from 1988 to 1994 to 28 percent from 1999 to 2004. children even younger than that are having problems with cavities, Hall said. Home remedies for acne come in all flavors of weird. There’s the egg yolk mask, handyman soap scrub, lidocaine rub and even a urine toner. And like any trial treatment, homemade treatments may work sheerly because of the placebo effect. But, does toothpaste posses any properties that support its usage as an acne treatment?
The first place to begin answering this question is to consider the ingredients in common toothpastes and what effect they have on the skin.
Fluoride:
In almost any tube of toothpaste you’ll find sodium monoflurorophosphate, or simply put, some chemical variety of fluoride. Fluoride prevents tooth cavities. But in the skin, fluoride typically causes more damage that it corrects. For example, medicals studies have reported that large does of fluoride could cause systemic poisoning.
