When you take care of the natural teeth in your mouth, there will be no toothache to crow about. Toothache refers to the pain caused by tooth or jaw problems such as dental cavity, a cracked tooth, an exposed tooth root, gum disease, disease of the jaw joint, or muscle spasms when chewing. The severity of a toothache can range from mild to chronic excruciating pain. The pain may be aggravated by chewing, cold, or hot temperature of food or liquids taken through the mouth. Dental x-rays can help determine the cause whether the toothache is coming from a tooth or jaw problem.
It is possibility that a toothache may be caused by a problem not originating from a tooth or the jaw. Pain around the teeth and the jaws can be symptoms of diseases of the heart such as angina or heart attack, ear infections, and even a sinus infection. The pain of angina is usually located in the chest or the arm. However, in some patients with angina, a toothache or jaw pain are the only symptoms of their heart problem. Since infections and diseases of the ears and sinuses can also cause pain around the teeth and jaws, evaluations by both dentists and doctors become necessary to diagnose medical illnesses causing “toothache.”

Dentistry has come a long way in the last century, and specifically, dental implants and oral rehabilitation has opened the doors and mouths with increased treatment possibilities for many patients. Let’s face it – we need our teeth for chewing functionality and to eat, not just for looks. Tooth loss can result in shrinkage of gums and jawbones, and up until recently there were many folks with partial tooth loss who could not live normally.
Due to oral implantology, or dental implants, a new standard of care has emerged and teeth can now be restored for both functionality and aesthetics. Dental implants can also help people with increased chewing capacity, and improved speech in addition to their appearance.
Many a periodontist and dental professionals have branched off and are now specializing in this field, and continuing research spawns new developments on a daily basis. However dental implants are not for people seeking new teeth in an hour; they take time.

An impacted tooth is a tooth that fails to fully emerge through the gums. The precise reasons why an individual’s wisdom teeth need to be extracted should be explained to them by their dentist, after an examination which almost certainly will need to include x-rays. Impacted wisdom teeth are very common. They are often painless and cause no apparent trouble. Most people have four wisdom teeth, one in each corner of the mouth- two on top, two on bottom. Wisdom teeth are also known as third molars are the last teeth to erupt. Wisdom teeth are the last of your teeth to come in, or erupt through the gums. Wisdom teeth are an example of a vestigial structure. They are generally thought to be called wisdom teeth because they appear so late- much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are supposedly wiser than as a child, when the other teeth erupt. An impacted tooth remains embedded in soft gingiva (gum) tissue or bone beyond its normal eruption time. The cause may be overcrowding, often because the jaw is too small to fit the third set of molars. Wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to develop. They appear in the mouth between the ages of 18-24 years and may develop in the jaw but never erupt or appear in the mouth.

While 4 out of 10 adults over the age of 65 still lose their teeth, many more are now retaining at least some of their natural teeth into their final years. Before the full impact of fluoridation, fluoride toothpastes, and improved oral hygiene and dental care, three-fourths of the population eventually ended up toothless. That solved the problem of dental decay and periodontal disease, but the elderly were hardly more comfortable with dentures.
With aging comes a decrease in dexterity and, less concern with oral hygiene. Diets tend to become softer and food debris and plaque accumulate around the natural teeth, contributing to root decay and advancing periodontal disease. Teeth become more brittle and fracture.

This is the reason for the fact that, nowadays, more and more people see cosmetic dentistry as the solution to most of their problems.
From teeth whitening to different types of tooth veneers, the dentist holds the key to your smile. However, although people are aware of the fact that fixing their teeth can help their life, the fear with which people think of a dentist still exists.
